Hi,  I have a clt who has separated from her husband, she is still in the marital home and her only income is CB and CTC.  She also has income from rent payments from a 2nd home they have a mortgage on.  Had a look in CPAG but could find no rules specific to a property that is rented out, only about the £16k

Can anyone help?

Under ‘Council Tax Benefit’ in the CPAG index, refer to either ‘income’ or ‘capital’, to get to the chapters on the common benefit rules, which include how they are treated for HB/CTB. The info is split into pre- and post- PC age claims. You should also have Shelter’s ‘Guide to HB and CTB’, which has a specific chapter on income and capital.

CPAG page 925 should help for your case notes hopefully - if the client is under 60
