Continuing from the last post, i have a lady who has been refused CESA based on not meeting the first test on contributions on earnings. The lady has provided me with a NI record statement from the HMRC but only starts from 1975 even though she insists that she started work when she left school from 1971. The record doesnt show that but for one tax year 1979-80 it says NI earnings - nil but under the heading NICs paid at class 1- 46.90 What does that mean, does this mean she paid NIC class 1 and is 46.90 enough to get CESA?

i am a bit desperate as she has been a carer many years and now is too sick herself, and i only need to find 26 weeks of NIC on earnings class 1 or 2 in any tax year.

thanks
Aisha

Hi Aisha

Why not give the NI contributions office a call - they were quite helpful recently when I contacted them.
