Cont based ESA (Youth) Take up

I wondered if anyone was considering doing any take up work on this before the youth route to claiming is abolished.

My understanding is that they plan to abolish the youth route to claiming cont based ESA, but that those already claiming it can remain on cont based ESA (subject to the year time limit if not in the support group).

I’m thinking that there are a lot of young adults (for example those in special education) for whom CB and CTC are still being claimed, and who should be placed in the support group if they switched to ESA. The next few months is their last opportunity to get onto contributory ESA via the youth route.

Obviously, for a lot of people it makes no difference whether part of their ESA is cont based or not. But there is some value for some people.

There is also the unknown (or unknown to me!) factor of how long entitlement to cont based ESA will continue along side UC, and what impact that entitlement will have on UC entitlement.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
