PIP short awards for claimants with mental health needs

Have received a PIP award letter this week for a client with anxiety, depression, panic attacks and suspected PTSD awarding him PIP but only up until 31/12/2024. We started the application mid-August 23 so it is a very unusual and short length of award.

We suspect that this may be related to consultation on PIP awards for mental health conditions and DWP is seeking to set it up so people are reviewed soon after any new changes. We’re going to file an appeal on the length of award to hopefully extend it.

Just wanted to make others aware in case this turns out to be a blanket approach by DWP which would be very concerning. Has anyone else seen the same thing recently?

Wendy,

Is you service-user a person who has come to the UK via the Immigration system?
