Hi
I know that in HB, if a non dep was at University, they could still be classed as a member of the household ( because its still their main home and they come home during holidays )
Do Universal Credit take the same approach or do they remove the non dep from the household if the non dep leaves home to go to Uni, regardless of them coming back at holidays?

I have a DHP app to cover the decrease in housing allowance as UC have removed the son from the household as he is at Uni.

Thanks

The issues are almost exactly the same: every case on its merits.  The only difference is that a single absence in excess of 6 months would remove a non-dep from the UC “extended benefit unit”, while in HB it is 52 weeks in the case of a student who is absent from home.

Otherwise, it comes down to the facts of the case and a decision needs to be made about whether the student still normally lives with the UC claimant.
