Bedroom Entitlement when moving off UC due to reaching pension age

Hi there,

If a single person over 35 is living in shared housing but receiving the 1 bed LHA rate while on UC, is there any reason why this would drop to the Shared Accommodation Rate when reaching pension age and moving onto the HB system?

Assuming the rent for the room is within the 1 bed LHA rate, should this be covered by HB even though it is recognised as being a room in a shared house?

Any help much appreciated.

Unfortunately HB is actually a lot stricter this way. HB pays shared accommodation rate when it’s a room in a house.

The only ‘fix’ is entitlement to AA/PIP and qualifying for the 1 bed rate that way.

That is very clear, although unfortunate. Thank you!
