Hi everyone,

I have a couple, both over pension age, and in receipt of PCg. The couple claim was in the wife’s name.  The wife has died and I can’t remember if PC will automatically change the award into the husbands name (he is still entitled) or if a new claim is needed. Please can someone help.

Many thanks

Remember, he can request up to three months’ backdating without needing a reason so even if the new application is made slightly late, they should be able to reinstate payments for his award as a single person following on from the termination of her award.

However, he should also be warned that the processing of the new PC claim may take a while, as per the RIghtsnet news story yesterday - Almost all welfare rights advisers responding to recent survey say that pension credit claimants are facing delays in excess of the DWP’s six-week processing target
