Sometimes people will say they are ‘getting carers for themselves’ as a way of meaning that they are getting the Severe Disability Premium.

But in terms of claimant actual Carers Allowance because you are caring for yourself, I don’t see any basis on which this could work.

Usually translates into getting PIP DL or DLA care.

Have had people argue at length with me over it but then you see the paperwork and sure enough it’s DLA or PIP.

Most of the time have more success asking people how much they get paid, rather than what benefit they get. Assuming these benefits are paid 4-weekly the differences are usually apparent, even if the client only has a rough estimate.

The Regs are clear that Carer’s Allowance can’t be claimed for oneself:

“another person”

Yeah. That’ll work ...........

“I receive a disability benefit as I’m unable to care for myself, however i would like to claim CA in order to care for myself…....”

I agree tho, if i had a quid for everyone who received the care component of DLA telling me “They get the carers Allowance” i could retire a rich man.
