My client made 52 weeks of class 2 contributions for 2019/20. He didn’t make any contributions for 2020/21 as he was in hospital. Would he have any entitlement to ns-ESA?

If he was still registered as self employed he could now pay voluntary Class 2 contributions. Once paid he should be able to claim ns-ESA from 6 weeks after the contribution are paid.

Thank you. For some reason voluntary conts never entered my head.

Only possible if able to make voluntary Class 2 contributions due to self employed status. Class 3 contributions would not help. Class 2 contributions are also very cheap so the outlay is quickly recovered.
