Guardian reporting that EU nationals have to confirm their immigration status to UC by means of a code supplied by the Home Office:

Anyone know if this correct?

Is it maybe just part of the trawl to review all the claims that had eased verification during covid, rather than an independent targeted measure?

Otherwise the claimants would have provided their EUSS code during the initial verification, and right to reside would already be reasonably established.

Yes. It’s called a share code and the claimant gets this from the EUSS website as UC will no accept paper evidence.

Regarding clients who may struggle with the above. We were advised by the Dorset District JCP bigwig that the DWP can do the following - :

‘I’ve checked with our local teams and can confirm that where we have vulnerable customers we can access the Checking Service.

To do this we need some information from the customer, namely their passport/biometric card number and date of birth. This then generates a code which is sent to the customer’s email or phone. If the customer provides us with that code we can view their current status. As the Checking Service shows their passport photo we can then verify their identity’.
