Renewing PIP claims in advance
Hi all - two of our clients have recently received letters from PIP advising that their claims are going to end in August and November respectively. It says that they need to call PIP if they still need it, so that the DWP can ‘ask you a few questions to help you with your PIP claim’. I’m wondering do they need to do this ASAP, even though in one case, the PIP claim is not due to end until 5 months from now, and if they do, will it be treated as if their current PIP award has stopped, or can they renew their claim for PIP whilst receiving their current award until it is reassessed? Thanks in advance!

The existing award will continue until a new decision is made or it passes the end date which ever is sooner.
They need to renew asap as it can take over 5 months for a decision on PIP to be made.
We were told by a PIP CM the other day that the average wait between returning the PIP2/AR1 and getting an assessment is 6 months. This fits in with what we are seeing locally, with the longest wait we currently have being since Nov 20 and some forms completed in January 21 just getting to assessment now. It’s like the old days when PIP first rolled out and everything moved at glacial speed.
