Job Descriptions WRO training grade post
Hi
Does anyone have or have had in the past, a training grade post for a WRO? and if so would you be willing to share the job description for this with me?

‘People will always need plates’ was our careers advice…....and specific to me when I suggested a ‘social work’ type job ‘don’t you think you’ll have enough problems of your own to deal with’.........

I can only speak for myself of course!
Welfare Rights Adviser required. Must have at least 12 months experience in an advice setting, preferably without swearing down the phone at the DWP, swearing at the computer because it won’t perform a function in a nanosecond or slagging off clients with your colleagues.
Essential skills include writing, arguing and the ability to pour scorn on the drafters of obscure legislation for a full half hour without repeating yourself. Desirable skills include being able to use a stapler for more than 3 months without knackering it, the ability to destaple papers without ripping them to shreds and the ability, while on the phone, to refrain from turning to your colleagues and saying “if I hear Vivaldi’s 4 seasons one more ‘effin time….”
Benefits include 32 days paid holiday per annum, a generous employer’s pension scheme and a beautifully crafted redundancy letter in 6 months time when all the lights go out.

You just hit one of my sore spots. Vivaldi! Why, why, why can’t the DLA unit get some different damned music on their telephony system. Anything would do, but not the Four Seasons! Surely his descendants could bring some sort of legal action against the DWP for misuse!!!!!
This is absolutely true, I swear. In the 1990’s I was on hold to Liverpool’s HB department and the music was Barret Strong’s Money, that’s what I want, (who he? Some of you might remember The Beatle’s version). Aaanyway! At least someone had a sense of humour.

Just noticed this and Juanita’s post about charity shops- all of these apply to me so I have come to the rather scary conclusion that I was some how genetically destined to become a welf and not the astronaut I wanted to be when I was 12.
I’d just like to point out that for those WELFs struggling to comply with the stereotypical image that the CAMRA Real Ale festival is on in London in a few weeks. http://gbbf.camra.org.uk/home Obviously you can get CPD points once you have completed the tasting of a pint of Farmer Jack’s Mouldy Socks. However, you may not be capable of calculating an applicable amount for some days afterwards.
re Vivaldi- why doesn’t each branch of the DWP have its own , appropriate, on-hold music, for example;

I recently had cause to phone Aviva Insurance on behalf of a client. I was played a message which asked me to choose what style music I would like to listen to while I was waiting on hold. Although I was given several options of music style these did not include either “total silence” or “why don’t we just answer your call quickly and dispense with the music?”. Lets hope that DWP doesn’t follow suit.

No it wasn’t, they spotted the beard, real ale and charity shop jumper so they all hid until you went away

Re replacing Vivaldi, how about utilising The Smiths/Morrissey back catalogue for different branches of the DWP. Some suggestions;
Sure Start Maternity Grant- Some girls are bigger than others
ICB/ESA- Still ill
Fraud- Shoplifters of the world unite
Funeral grant- First of the gang to die
JSA- (I was looking for a job and then I found a job and) Heaven knows i’m miserable now
And for those few poor souls caught by s73(8) Social Security Contributions And Benefits Act 1992 - Girlfriend in a coma
I really, really must get out more.
