Appeals beyond the long stop deadline
This is another “or did I dream it?” post.
I’m sure, in the dim and distant past, I saw a decision that held that in exceptional circumstances an appeal could be admitted outside the long stop deadline.
Is my memory playing tricks on me again?
If we are talking about appeals, rather than MRs, then the case is Adesina v NMC. There is an extremely narrow cohort of cases where extending the deadline may be necessary to avoid a human rights breach.
Edit: confirmed for our purposes in this case https://www.rightsnet.org.uk/welfare-rights/caselaw/item/absolute-time-limit-of-13-months-for-an-appeal-may-be-extended-in-exception
