Silly question time (you know those times when the answer is flaming obvious, but you still doubt yourself)

Are there ANY circumstances that would allow a UC claim to be backdated more than a month?

As far as im concerned the answer is no, but a client simply wont have it!

CPAG book is quite clear on this, however the client is adamant that exceptional circumstances apply to her in order to extend her backdate further.

Apologies if this is such an obvious question, but im having one of those days. I call them “work” days :)

Thanks

If we are talking about a situation where there is no prior history with UC, UC has been claimed and you are asking for backdating under reg 26 C&P, then you can only get an extension of 1 month to claim.

There are other situations which someone might talk about “backdating” which go back further than a month - e.g. if they had an earlier claim which had been wrongly refused.
