Self employed claimant- reporting earnings within period covered by a Fit Note

My is S/E. He has been submitting Fit Notes since beginning of September, after an accident. He was reminded to report his earnings. He was upset as “UC knows I am sick”. He was advised thus:
“as you are still registered as a self employed person who is on sick leave you still have to report if you have earned anything or not. If you have not earned anything then you just need to say that. It is the was the system is set up. “

I cannot find anything about s.e. earnings during prolonged period of sickness, except tiny bit in ADM H4057 . I just wanted to check if this is indeed the way the system is set up…

I think that is probably right, assuming the client remains self-employed & this is temporary sickness. I think that is because you could still be paid/have self-employed expenses to pay during a period of sickness, and UC looks at self-emp receipts/expenses/income tax & NI etc for each AP.
