SDP and live in carers (Shared lives)

Anyone had experience of a live in care, via shared lives, and SDP on ESA. Although this person is now on UC.

My take is that they should get it. They are separately liable for the rent, and are not close family members. Happy to be corrected…

You may want to check whether it was being applied through HB without the client knowing, and therefore whether they could ‘bounce off’ UC, depending on when they claimed?

As above, it would be my understanding that the carer should be classed as a non non-dependant.

If you intend to pursue a backdated SDP award, I’d be proactive and submit any and all relevant evidence when filing the application. DWP seems to have a tendency to drag their feet on these applications, and may not even send the evidence request.
