Next meeting is scheduled for 8th June, Birmingham CVS.

CAAN aims at providing the most up to date information regarding the LSC practice and proceedures with sessions from Advice Services Alliance (ASA)

The agenda will include training by Matt Howgate.
A lot of providers have now employed solicitors for the first time.

Employing solicitors and doing legal aid certificated work presents both opportunities and challenges. Matt Howgate will discuss issues around employing and retaining high quality solicitors and will give guidance on the legal aid certificate regime including when to apply for a certificate, scope and costs limitations, devolved powers, costs and costs claiming, including payments on account, and the statutory charge and costs protection. A pocket guide to running litigation under legal aid.

This meeting is open to anyone who holds a LSC contract - you don’t have to be a member, however there will be a small fee to cover the cost of hiring the venue and lunch.

Following yesterdays meeting CAAN have now changed their constitution to allow solicitors firms to become members.

This is a great opportunity for firms who are in a consortia arrangements to attend the meetings and get behind the scenes news about what the LSC are up to.

This especially relevant as they (LSC) are going to visit firms and agencies to check their consortia arrangements and practices.

Also, each meeting has a training element which will count towards the points/hours required for practising certificates.

For details of membership fees etc contact our administrator at the email address in the previous post
