Do they plan to bring back Parish Relief, or the Speenhamland System? (They might work better than UC.)
Nobody expects the Parish Inquisition!
We have a hearing in a couple of weeks which concerns IS Regs, Reg 8 & Sch. 1, para. 5 and SS(IFW)Reg. 10(2)(e).
Where does this fit into the pantheon of ‘heritage benefits’? Is this a ‘pre-historic benefit’ issue?

On the topic of Parish inquisitions…
Researching my family history recently came upon the (delightfully named) Bastardy Order. (no comment on my ancesters obviously!) The pregnant woman was subjected to a ‘bastardy examination’ by the Church Warden or Overseer of the Poor to establish who the father was. He was then summoned to court to pay maintenance as the child and mother would become chargable to the parish if he did not. If she left and went to another parish she would be forcibly removed and returned! This was the 1830s but would hate to give the DWP any ideas for new policies…
