Ofsetting

Cl has been getting UC for the last eight weeks or so but has applied for backdated CA which has yet to be paid.

As I understand it the regs say that any arrears of CA would have to be offset against the UC already paid but I was wondering if this is actually what happens in practice? My Cl. is worried that the arrears of CA will generate an overpayment of UC which, although legitimate, they would find distressing to have to deal with.

Has anyone had any experience of this?
