Is UC the only option if HB is cancelled in a full service area?

A claim was cancelled in February 2018 due to not providing income. However a letter was never received and claimant has only just noticed HB was not being paid. They have been a UC area since March so is there no way back to HB?

They can ask for the decision ending HB to be revised and if necessary appeal. They cannot make a new HB claim in a full service area. They will need to give reasons why the appeal or revision application is late. They could do all this and claim UC as well in which case the HB appeal would only affect the period down to the UC claim. The risk in not claiming UC is the HB appeal fails and they have lost benefit in the meantime by delaying the UC claim. But if they really really want to stay off UC at all costs, they simply don’t claim it and press on with the HB appeal only
