We have demanded an urgent meeting with UC management to discuss the impact that this announcement will have on our members, and the delivery of UC going forward. If over 3000 extra staff will no longer be moving to DWP from HMRC then how do they propose to deliver the UC work that they would have done? Many of those staff would have come over to DWP during this current financial year, so we need to know urgently how DWP now plan to deliver the work. PCS has serious concerns about staffing in DWP with members in most areas reporting that they are unable to deliver a decent service to claimants because of staffing shortages. The decision not to proceed with wholesale transfers of staff from HMRC, the recent pause in recruitment and the intention to recruit only 2,500 staff over the course of the coming year means that numbers of staff will reduce, putting even more pressure on an already over-stretched workforce.
