Hello,

I have had a query from a gentleman who is turning 65 soon. He is considering applying for the ER Mob (currently gets SR).

I know he needs to do this before he turns 65 however does he need to APPLY before age 65 (presuming he is then successful) or actually be awarded the ER before age 65?

Thanks

Joel

So long as he applies before he’s fine

He needs to apply for the higher rate before reaching 65 years, as this will instigate a supersession which will take effect from date of request if successful, thus establishing entitlement before 65, regardless of when the actual decision is made.
