Can someone please assist (Jon/Gareth/anorak?).

i’m looking for stats / estimates (headline figs only) of the % of low paid workers who are paid less than monthly (to illustrate the potential scale of the issue with UC assessment periods).

Do you mean less frequently than monthly?  The minimum pay reference period is 31 days for the purpose of the minimum wage. If someone’s payments are more than a month apart, eg bi-monthly, then they still have to receive the minimum wage each month.

I think ONS collect pay frequency information as part of the Annual Survey Hours and Earnings (and they also collect it in the Monthly Wages and Salaries Survey)

Unfortunately, pay frequency doesn’t seem to appear in the output statistics - but they give an email and phone contact on

so you could try asking them.

Gauke said today in the select committee hearing that 69% of people claiming Tax Credits were paid either monthly or 4 weekly
