Praxis - New Resident’s and Refugees Forum
Without “leave to remain”, life can be difficult and precarious, both physically and emotionally for many migrants. Migrants feel stuck in a limbo where they are unable to move forward with their lives. Solicitors play an important role in creating pathways to settlement. However, approaching solicitors can be very problematic.
Following research carried out in Tower Hamlets and within Praxis, the next New Residents and Refugee Forum aims to explore the challenges faced by new community members in accessing legal services by posing the following questions: “How can we meet the shortfall posed by reductions to Legal Aid? Are all solicitors able to deal with immigration matters well? Which are the challenges faced by solicitors? How can we ensure vulnerable migrants are not exploited in unscrupulous practices?”
The Forum takes place on 16th July 9.45-12.30 at Clifford Chance.
