The new housing allocation provisions of the Localism Act 2011 come into force (Monday 18 June 2012). They are set out in sections 145-147 of the Localism Act, amending the Housing Act 1996 Part 6.

Wow

You are probably going to want to know a little bit more……

It basically means that your average Joe no longer can insist on his right to plonk his name on the Housing Register anywhere in England.

Your LA do not have to run an “Open List”

You advise your client that he cant put his/her name on the list and you get told there is no point as hes not entitled to go on.

You are lost for words….

“But he dont want to buy or privately rent”

“Sorry”  “We have decided to exclude all those not in housing need”

Your best bet is to request their allocation policy and see precisely who is now excluded…..because
Birkenhead will do one thing and Wandsworth another…......
