Hello all,
Please I have a client whose son sadly passed away 7 months ago. Her son was in receipt of PIP and she was getting carers allowance for looking after him. She said she had to pay for the funeral from her pocket and since all the benefit they were getting had stopped, she is struggling financially and not sure if there is anything she can claim.
Please does anyone have any idea of what she can claim.
I check to see if she can claim bereavement support but the eligibility applies to partners and nothing said of children.
Please has anyone dealt with something similar or any ideas.

What is the rest of the mum’s financial situation?

The son’s death is, although it sounds rather callous to say it, probably not greatly significant to her financial position at this time.

The one thing that I would be looking at rather urgently is any qualification for a Funeral Expenses Payment as this needs to be claimed within 6 months of the funeral, so she may be out of time or imminently about to run out of time to claim it.

I’ve had the following as a message from Raissa which I think is intended as a reply to the thread:

She is currently in receipt of UC and it seems she is getting all she should be getting.
I think any support to aid with the funeral expenses will be helpful.
Please how can she claim

A claim for funeral expenses can be made here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/funeral-payment-claim-form

Please do note the urgency, as the time limit cannot be extended.
