On UC, moving into supported accommodation

Hi, apologies if this is covered but couldn’t find it.

I have a client on UC who has moved into supported accommodation, which necessitates a HB claim.  He’s moved
mid- assessment period.  Should UC pay his Housing Costs up to the date he leaves, or are they correct to not pay any HCs at at the end of his period his eligible HCs were nil?

Thanks in advance

John

The change of circs - i.e. no longer having a relevant rental liability - is treated as effective from the start of the AP so it is just lost.

‘Swings and roundabouts’ applies as equally if he had been moving into the accommodation mid-AP, he would get the full HCE for that AP.

He should consider applying for a DHP.

See paras. 7.26-7.29 of this document: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2018/65/pdfs/uksiem_20180065_en_001.pdf

(That document is referring to temporary acc., but the same applies to supported acc.)

Thanks for the replies, it’s pretty much as I feared.  My client will lose nearly a full month of HCs in this instance, which just seems wrong when moving into specialist accommodation.. I know there’s an exception when pensioners turn pension age and get a pro-rata final payment and was hoping to find evidence of similar…but it is what it is!
