Managed migration notice

Managed migration - client currently gets WTC/CTC of £141/w as she works and has an 18 year old doing A levels - last exam is 27/6/23.

However client has a managed migration notice with a deadline of 15/7/23. So if she doesn’t claim UC her tax credits end on 15/7 and in effect she looses out on entitlement from 15/7 - 31/8/23 - around 6 weeks of entitlement

If she claims UC, due to earned income she only has entitlement while there is a child element included. Initially she is around £12/w worse off on UC so that would be covered by TP.
However if she makes a UC claim today she will be entitled to UC in the AP 10/5 - 9/6 but she will have no entitlement in the next AP as she no longer has a QYP from 27/6/23.
This means her income drops from 9/6/23 whereas if she had not received a MM notice tax credits would have continued to 31/8/23.

Whichever way I look at it she is worse off having received a MM notice - is there any way around this?

Optimum time to claim UC would be on a date when UC won’t include a child element but Tax Credits still in payment. But might need an appeal to establish that such an outcome is correct.

Can’t they delay the deadline day? might be worth an ask to JCP…
