High Court casts doubt on British citizenship of children of EU citizens

Imagine a situation where the state has misunderstood its own nationality laws for 20 years. That state has either wrongly issued passports to tens of thousands of people and will now have to take them back. Or has wrongly denied citizenship to tens of thousands of others.

New Bill introduced to protect rights of those EU citizens granted citizenship prior to Home Office change of position in 2022 -
[ Edited: 6 Jun 2023 at 03:43 pm by Stuart ]The government have introduced a new bill confirming people’s British citizenship rights to confirm how British nationality law is applied to people born in the UK to parents who are EU citizens between 1 January 1983 and 1 October 2000.
The British Nationality (Regularisation of Past Practice) Bill follows the change in Home Office position which was first announced during a hearing in the High Court in October 2022. A short factsheet has also been published by the Home Office to explain what they are doing and why.
Royal Assent was granted today….
