Benefits uprating by a percentage.

Some people, who should know better, seem to be accepting that a 10% uprating will increase peoples’ benefits by twice as much as a 5% one.  Other people are lazily, ignorantly or deliberately arguing the same..

I’ve put up a remarkably tedious blog post to explain why that isn’t the case.

One thing that has troubled me for the last few years is that having a percentageincreasemeansthat for pensioners the gap between the old basic State Pension and the new State Pension gets wider every year.
