Hi everyone,
Was part of the delegation of trade unions and DDP/Os who recently attended the UN.
Rightsnet story here: https://www.rightsnet.org.uk/welfare-rights/news/item/government-has-failed-to-create-any-transformative-change-in-progressing-disabled-peoples-rights-says-disability-rights-uk. Thanks to Daphne Hall as always.
A recording of the session is here: https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1s/k1svtljvtr
The entire transcript of the session will not be available for some time.
Anne Marie of the UK delegation kindly made a transcript of the questions from the rapporteurs to the UK state though, and that is attached to this post. Many thanks to Anne Marie.
I am sharing as it may not only be practically useful for advisers and clients, but also provide some comfort.
We don’t really need to see what the government said in response because none of it answered or even engaged with the questions.
In solidarity,
EKS
Note: We refer to the convention as the Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (CRDP) rather than the given name - Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) - to follow the social model of disability. The convention allows us to do this.
