This course covers:
- the changes which require groups of claimants who had previously been able to claim income support as lone parents or sickness benefits (like employment and support allowance or incapacity benefit) to claim jobseeker's allowance;
- the basic rules of entitlement for both income-based and contributory jobseeker's allowance;
- the labour market conditions for jobseeker's allowance: when and how the requirement to be actively seeking work and available for work applies;
- the rules which allow for employment and training scheme related sanctions and challenges to sanction decisions;
- severe hardship payments of jobseeker's allowance;
By the end of the course you will be able to -
- identify which lone parents must claim income based jobseeker's allowance and which can still obtain income support;
- advise clients who have health problems, but cannot obtain employment and support allowance, about claiming jobseeker's allowance;
- advise jobseeker's allowance claimants about the labour market rules, so that they are aware of when and how they can restrict their availability for work and work search activity, in light of their caring responsibilities and health problems;
- understand when a client can be sanctioned so as to give pre-emptive advice and assist clients who have been sanctioned to challenge those decisions;
- identify and assist clients who are eligible for hardship payments of jobseeker's allowance.
