Finland planning to scrap benefits and give every citizen a basic income of €800 a month

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/finland-plans-to-give-every-citizen-800-euros-a-month-and-scrap-benefits-a6762226.html

(Although presumably there’d be provision for extra needs because of health / disability etc?)

People who might want to know more about the Citizens Income idea might find http://www.citizensincome.org/ interesting.

Actually…haven’t we been here before? A strange sense of de ja vu is creeping upon me. Sure I’ve subjected you to the ‘Fin’ pun in the not too distant past. And it isn’t even Friday (though I suppose the thread does have a suitably Christmassy feel to it.) And Jon- that’s truly appalling and I’m dead jealous.

What is left unstated is that they plan a flat rate tax of 800 euros a month to finance this.
