Lord Freud’s off ...
... says he leaves with ‘full confidence in the future of universal credit’
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/lord-freud-to-retire-from-ministerial-role
Lord Fraud, the man who admitted that he knew naff all about the benefits system when he was appointed. Years later he seemed surprised that cutting tenants HB didn’t bring private sector rents down and that Universal Credit was causing rent arrears.
And then there was his comments on disabled people and the minimum wage…
The very best of riddance.
Consultant directorship at Maximus in the offing?
Meanwhile, in the Lords yesterday:
“There was a long-termer named Freud,
A cold-water warrior who toyed
With a system that groaned
And a Chancellor who moaned,
And to his universal credit, he deployed—partially”
