I have submitted a new claim for HB for a tenant and it has been brought to my attention that he had a previous JSA award.
DWP sent ETD and HB had a claim form, they refused to pay as they say they required more information .

I thought they only worked on DWP behalf and had to pay HB is DWP advised them to do so…

Should they not have awarded on ETD from DWP?

If the info being looked for was confirmation of the JSA award then yes an ETD should have been sufficient. Also they can and should check the CIS system to confirm any benefits award. However, they can request further information if they need it as the council makes their own decisions in their own right.

The only info required I can think of is if it was a conts based JSA claim they may still have to verify capital as that does not get done through the claim process for conts based JSA. They would also need proof of rent costs whether it was conts based or income based.

What was the information they were looking for? You should be able to get it overturned through a reconsideration, but I accept this is not the point.
