In case anyones wondering where they've gone, the following from Government Computing.

"Security is the red tape of our time. It is rare that an organisation strengthens security without making life worse for its staff or customers.

So it’s refreshing to see a government agency improve its security with little or no impact on its clients.

Someone applying for jobseeker’s allowance has to call a freephone number and provide a mass of personal data, including national insurance number, bank account details, and information on income and savings, rent or mortgage.

This provides plenty of material for an identity thief. So from the end of this month, Jobcentre Plus will stop sending most of the confirmation letters containing this data by post. In most cases, the letters will be sent electronically to a Jobcentre Plus office, where the applicant can check the data on first appointment.

Those whose first appointment is delayed will be the exceptions, receiving the information to check by post so their benefits are not delayed. But far fewer letters containing this parcel of personal data will go through the post, so reducing the risk."
