We’ve changed our name

September 2020.

We wanted to share with you that, with many of you having known us as 'rightsnet' for some time now, we’ve finally decided to say a fond farewell to ‘Lasa’.

Lasa was launched as ‘London Advice Services Alliance’ back in the mid-eighties, and the name was a good fit. We were based in London and, in the pre-internet era, we provided our services to other access to justice organisations across the capital. And we were an alliance, the result of a coming together of three separate organisations (the Welfare Rights Support Team, Community Information Project, and the Computer Development Unit.)

Fast forward to 2010, and now providing services across the UK, we scaled back our name to just Lasa (and updated our formal name to ‘Lasa Charity UK Limited’).

At the same time, however, more and more of our services were going online – for example, we’d replaced our paper-based publications with online news and case law updates, and our telephone advice lines with our online casework support forums – and our rightsnet website, that we’d launched back in 1998, was becoming more and more the focus of our work.

In fact, across the UK, many more people know us now as rightsnet, some have never even heard of Lasa ... and there are those who understandably have never been quite sure of the relationship between the two.

And so we think it’s time to change again.

Going forwards, we'll still be offering the same range of services, including our daily news and case law updates, our casework support forums, job vacancy and training listings, our advicelocal website and advice directory, Aims software, and our universalcreditinfo, pipinfo and wcainfo web tools ...

... but, from September 2020, we'll be known as (drum roll) ... rightsnet.
