Government issues further ‘Treasury Direction’ in relation to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

Made under provisions in the Coronavirus Act 2020, new Direction reflects the extension of the Scheme and 'clarifies some provisions'

The government has issued a further 'Treasury Direction' in relation to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Made under section 71 and section 76 of the Coronavirus Act 2020, the new Direction -

'... reflects the extension to the Scheme announced by the Chancellor on 17 April and clarifies some provisions within the original Direction.'

NB - while the update references the Chancellor's announcement on 17 April 2020 that, because of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the scheme - that was initially planned to run for three months between March and May 2020 - would be open until the end of June 2020, the government has subsequently announced a further extension to the end of October 2020.
