Organisation: Potter Rees Dolan Solicitors
Hours per week negotiable
Deadline: 9 August, 2019
Potter Rees Dolan is a highly regarded firm of personal injury solicitors, specialising in complex claims involving brain and spinal injury and other serious, life changing injuries. Our clients include some of the most vulnerable individuals who, as part of the litigation or Court of Protection process, are in constant need of specialist welfare benefits advice.
In addition to this, we operate a pro-bono service for local NHS services and need a client-focused individual with recent experience of providing specialist welfare, housing and debt advice, to join us as and help ensure our most vulnerable clients get the support they need. Experience of Adult Social Care and Continuing Health Care Funding procedures would be a distinct advantage.
About the role:
As a Social Welfare Law Adviser, you’ll be based in our offices in the City Centre but would be expected to travel to meet clients at home in Greater Manchester, in NW hospitals and at NW Headway centres for which expenses will be covered.
Typically, your role will include advising about health and social care and/or charitable funding following accident or injury, entitlement to benefits and the related form completion, reviews and appeals, managing rent and mortgage arrears; negotiating payment plans with creditors, dealing with employers and sick pay, assisting with budgeting and maximising income, liaising with other agencies, making referrals where appropriate and keeping accurate records. All are key aspects of this interesting, varied and rewarding role.
To succeed, you’ll need relevant experience gained working within welfare benefits and have up to date, sound knowledge of Universal Credit, PIP, ESA and other relevant benefits available for vulnerable people and those with less obvious, more subtle injuries. It would be a distinct advantage if you are able to offer advice about housing and debt management. You must have empathy with those who have themselves or whose loved ones have suffered life changing injuries or disabilities.
Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including document management systems, Microsoft Office applications, internet and email etc. is important too, with the ability to type preferred. Proactive, results-driven and sensitive to the needs of others, you work well within a team and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas, methods and processes if appropriate.
We offer a wide range of benefits, including competitive salary, 33 days of annual leave (pro rata), bonus structure, pension and flexible working. Our employees also have access to a free gym and we regularly enjoy social outings and away days as a firm.
This is a 9 month Fixed Term Contract with a view to a permanent position being offered to the right candidate. Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
