The Citizens Advice service helps people resolve their problems by providing information and advice, and by influencing policymakers.

CCA are working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support and are currently looking to recruit a Specialist Benefits Adviser to join our service delivering benefits advice across the Coventry and Warwickshire region at allocated NHS acute Cancer Service venues.

You will provide an advice service to clients referred to the project through agreed referral routes at agreed location. You will deliver the service mainly face to face in hospital settings, ideally cancer unit or cancer treatment centres, ensuring that delivery is integrated with cancer care teams to provide seamless referral pathways that complement the assessment and care planning process. Support should also be made available through multi channels (telephone, email and web) when appropriate. The post requires you to undertake casework on behalf of the client and to representational level.

We are looking for a candidate with up to date benefits advice experience obtained over a minimum period of 2 years in the preceding 3 years, including experience of dealing with emotionally challenging and difficult health situations You will have the ability to understand written and oral information of some complexity; have good numeracy skills sufficient to compile accurate benefit calculations and financial statements have effective oral and written communication skills for the purposes of negotiation and reporting.

The post holder will be required to be self-servicing and able to operate with minimal supervision whilst delivering services remotely. Act as a relationship lead at the venues to ensure the smooth delivery of the service and maintaining relationships. Provide feedback and support to the Project Manager when reviewing service provision and maintaining standards.

We want people who are passionate about giving an effective service to those most in need. You will need to demonstrate that you can engage skilfully with clients who are vulnerable and distressed; have proven skills at working in a busy environment; the success of this contract is measured against target performance and the ability to work under pressure will be required. Excellent communication, organisational and numeracy skills will be essential, as well as being able to embrace the values of the CCA.


Due to these posts having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided
