More than 80,000 people have arrived in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme

New figures include more than 12,000 that have been sponsored by the Scottish and Welsh Governments

More than 80,000 people have arrived in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, according to new government figures.

Launched in March 2022 in response to the war in Ukraine, the Homes for Ukraine scheme enables sponsors living in the UK to provide a home for Ukrainian individuals or families. Under the scheme, individuals can apply to provide a home or spare room rent-free for as long as they are able, with a minimum stay of six months. In addition, the Scottish and Welsh Governments have set up 'Super Sponsor' arrangements where the government rather than a private individual acts as the sponsor.

All those coming to the UK under the scheme are granted three years leave to remain and have 'full and unrestricted' access to benefits, healthcare, employment and other support.

According to the latest figures up to 9 August 2022 -

NB - the figures do not include those who have arrived on visas issued through the Ukraine Family Scheme.
