Expiry of modification of unsuitable temporary accommodation rules in Scotland to enable placement of homeless families in hotels and B&Bs extended by three months

New statutory instrument extends expiry of temporary Covid-19-related modification period from 30 June 2021 to 30 September 2021

New regulations have been issued in relation to the expiry of the modification of unsuitable temporary accommodation rules in Scotland that allow the placement of homeless families in hotels and bed and breakfasts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In force from 29 June 2021, the Homeless Persons (Unsuitable Accommodation) (Scotland) (Modification and Revocation) (Coronavirus) Amendment Order 2021 (SSI.No.222/2021) extends the expiry date of modifications of the Homeless Persons (Unsuitable Accommodation) (Scotland) Order 2014 - made by Article 2 of the previous amendment Order SSI.No.10/2021 - from 30 June 2021 to 30 September 2021.

NB - the temporary modifications of the 2014 Order permit local authorities to provide accommodation within hotels and bed and breakfasts for homeless households (including households containing children or a pregnant woman) who need to self-isolate, or otherwise comply with physical distancing guidelines which have come into being as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, where the authority is unable to place the household in suitable accommodation.
