Under Housing Benefit there is scope for Housing Benefit to cover the rent on two homes for up to 52 weeks, intention to return blah blah….

I cant find anything that gives the same provision under housing costs for UC. Therefore i am not sure what advice i could give to claimants under the new scheme. Has anyone a better understanding of the regulations than me and spotted something that i havent??

Would be really grateful to be prepared.

There is provison within the draft regulations for those who are fleeing DV to have benefit paid on two homes and actually allows for it to be longer than 52 wks (but this would be extremely unlikely in reality).  However, the sting in the tail is that the benefit cap will include any dual payments of housing costs.

You will notice that the draft guidance for DHP’s focusses on two homes payments. LA’s get dumped with all the difficult stuff.
