Assuming that payment levels are the same as current levels:

Couple rate (Partner receiving ESA WRAG)          £139.60
Housing costs (rent)                              £120.00
UC benefit                                       £259.60

Loss of benefit due to under 1occupying             £17.00
Partner of PCqa State Pension                     £123.44
Total of deductions                               £140.44

Total UC payable                                 £119.16

Rent payable £120.00
UC payable   £119.16

For the privilege of having a young partner you get to pay 74p towards housing costs, which would rise if partner of PCqa has a small Occupational Pension

Have I got something wrong here?

We need a little more detail of the case but, crudely, the difference between PC couple rate and UC couple rate is likely to be more than £100 a week.

The PC changes are more complex than generally realised.

This couple take a hit of £99 plus a DLA drop of potentially £57 and need to wait an additional 7years although the difference in age is 3 years
What choices, As the younger partner will never be able to return to work, the female partner due to retire Jan 2014, works until she’s 69 or live they on £140pw for 7 years

This is a real case, there is also a non dependant son in receipt of DLA LRC, which will probably disappear as well, He potentially loses £150 per week as well . The household is potentially taking a hit of £330-£350 per week
Happy to send details for your FFBN.

Please, I’ll run it through and add it to the library.
