PIP payments into bank accounts

I have supported someone today 5/4 in making a PIP claim doing PIP 1 on the phone. Following the person giving their bank details they were told they would need to follow this up with a phone call to PIP enquiry line to confirm the bank details are correct. I queried this as I do a number of claims with people and not been told to do this. He said there is a change in policy and people have to confirm bank details by calling the enquiry line. My client has mental health issues and it difficult for her to make phone calls. Seems like this is putting up barriers to people accessing their money. Can anyone shed light on this new procedure? I can’t understand why they ask for bank details if you have to call up again anyway.
