Hi, a client’s mother needs proof of marriage in order to prove that she was the spouse of her late husband in order to receive his council pension.

She is Nigerian and they were married in Nigeria in 1966.

I’ve looked on the internet and found some tracing services but wondered if anyone has any other ideas? Would the embassy help?

Thanks!

If you are married in the UK, it’s fairly straightforward to get a copy of the relevant certificate here: https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate

I assume there is an equivalent for Nigeria. Certainly asking the embassy would not be a bad place to start.
