Hopefully quite a simply query. When someone is self employed and on UC, are earnings just their gross earnings less tax and NI, or does it include permitted expenses/pension contributions when considering earnings for benefit cap purposes?

Thank you

Earnings are what is taken into account for the UC calculation, so that means total receipts, less expenses, tax/NI paid in the month, pension contributions and brought forward losses. Income due to the MIF is not included though.
