My client has been in hospital for some time and is due to be discharged in the next month. I have advised him to make a claim for PIP as he has problems with motivation to self-care - I know he can’t be paid while in hospital but he is aiming to start college in September so needs PIP and LCW to be a disabled student and I am hoping to get the process started as early as possible, given the time taken to assess. Is there anything wrong with this? We would be making it clear on the phone that he is currently in hospital.

Nothing wrong at all - one of the questions they ask on the phone when making the claim is whether you in hospital.
Just make sure that the client phones PIP straight away when discharged - and preferably sends in some written verification - to speed up payments starting.
