At 16:52 Donna Ward claims the whole system is overall £2 billion more generous than legacy beenfits. The one scenario you can be better off is support group UC with no previous SDP - £30 a week more generous. That would need 1.3 million people in that set for it to total £2 billion a year, even before you offset anyone who’s worse off.

The taper improves things for some with an income. Also, they include higher take-up of entitlements, which is the real reason it’s more generous overall. It would otherwise be less generous.

According to Amber Rudd and Neil Couling, DWP will pay compensation if bad advice from DWP leads to someone migrating to UC in error and losing out -
