Have been hearing of numerous cases where student bursaries are reduced to £28 per week from £98 for students who have a UC claim and are single parents of have a UC claim with partner and have children.
UC have reduced their payments by £309 per month (£71.30 a week) as they claim the students have been awarded the full Bursary. Student advisors have said there has been some agreement between the Student Funding Council and DWP. If there is we can’t find it.
Is this another case of the UC system unfairly penalising people who are trying to get qualifications to get back into work?

I understand that the Local UC service centre have agreed this is a fault and will rectify the situation with immediate effect! The college were prompted into action when 5 or 6 students came in to withdraw from their courses on the same day. It may be useful to see if any other areas try the same thing.
